The Run Barbados series is organized by the Barbados Tourism Authority, a governmental organization formed in 1950 to promote and help with the development of the island’s tourism product. They establish the Run Barbados series in 1983 to assist with the promotion of the island’s sports tourism program as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle among all age groups through sports.

History of The Barbados Marathon
Originally the Barbados marathon series started with only the Bridgetown 10 K and the marathon… with both events taking part along some of the island’s more scenic routes. The 26 mile Barbados marathon started at the Grantley Adams International Airport and travel through the old fishing town of Oistins, along the playful south coast to the historic city of Bridgetown.
Participants then travel along the gorgeous west coast road through historic Holetown, to finish at Speightstown in the north, right on the edge of one of the most picture perfect beaches you can imagine. The 10 K race started at the beautiful Bay street esplanade and travel along the historic careenage in Bridgetown returning to the Bay Street Esplanade finish along the cities main shopping area..
Over the years a number of other events like the Gap fun mile and the half marathon has been added to the series which has increased its popularity as well as broaden participation. The Barbados Half Marathon
The half-marathon is a more recent addition to the series. Pamenos Ballantyne of St Vincent was a repeat winner in this event in 2000-2002.
In recent years the Men’s Race has been dominated by Kenyans, Richard Kessio, Robert Letting and Philip Lagat. Kessio has won the Barbados Marathon (2010-2011), the Half Marathon (2012, 2013 & 2014) and the 10km race in 2011.
In 2014 Running Times named him as one of the “Masters Long Distance Runners of the Year.

The Run Barbados Series 10 k Run
The Run Barbados 10K is one of the oldest in the Caribbean (since 1983) and a race you don’t want to miss!.
The 10K races follow a scenic course along Bay Street featuring the beautiful Carlisle Bay and through the historic former colonial seaport of Bridgetown (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
There will be Entertainment on the course, plentiful course support, water stations and aid stations.
